Supervisors Approve
Bid Process for
Collier Park Restrooms
by Joe Naiman

The Board of Supervisors approved the advertisement for bid and subsequent award of a contract to provide family-friendly restrooms at Collier Park.

The 5-0 vote Dec. 10 establishes $193,000 of 2003-04 Community Development Block Grant funds for the project and authorizes the director of the county’s Department of Purchasing and Contracting to contract for the project.

The project will remove the existing restroom building, which is substandard and not fully accessible under Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

The new building will be fully ADA-compliant and will feature four family-friendly restrooms with utility and storage areas. Walkway and landscape improvements also will be part of the project.

The improvements continue the Collier Park Master Plan, which supervisors approved for the 8-acre park in May 1994. Subsequent improvement plans include an additional tot lot, which is in the design phase. One new tot lot in the master plan has been completed.

The estimated cost of the construction contract is $160,000, including a 10 percent contingency. The remaining $33,000 will be used for project costs including minor design modifications, engineering inspection services, surveying costs and project administration.
