Burn Area Victims Permitted To Install Manufactured Homes on Their Property

County officials approved the temporary use of manufactured and mobile homes on private property in burn areas in unincorporated parts of San Diego County.

Residents must follow a few basic rules:

• Emergency Temporary Occupancy Permits issued by the Department of Planning and Land Use are required. Applica-tions are available at the local assistance centers in Alpine, Ramona and Valley Center. Once the permit is approved and the unit installed, a minimal safety inspection is done.

• Temporary dwellings must connect to appropriate septic or sewer systems, power pole and water connection where water quality has been considered.

• Skirts for manufactured homes are strongly recommended to reduce infestation problems.

DPLU is issuing these permits free of charge. Requests are reviewed by the zoning division for assurance with the underlying zoning and checked to ensure the home on the property was in fact destroyed or damaged by the fire.

The permits are good one year from issuance and can be issued up to one year from the date of the fire.

For more information, contact DPLU at (858) 694-2960 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
