Whether homeowners decide to sell their home themselves or hire a real estate professional, having the "right" knowledge is essential to make the best home-selling decisions.
Selling a home in today’s market is complex because of new laws regulating what sellers are required to tell buyers. Each year, many sellers make the same mistakes that not only rob them of the profits they have earned on their homes, but can get them into legal nightmares.
Patti Guerrero, Broker Associate, and Teri Merry, Realtor at Century 21 San Vicente in Ramona, decided to do something about it. They organized a free Home Seller’s Symposium on Jan. 27 at Ramona Mainstage Theater.
Guerrero and Merry recruited speakers to provide sellers with critical facts necessary to make sure they make the right decisions when planning and negotiating the sale of their home. Presented without gimmicks or a sales pitch, the symposium was designed to give home sellers information to help them ask the right questions, make informed decisions, and protect their home equity.
Topics included "What to Expect: From ‘For Sale’ to ‘Moving,’ " "What Escrow Is and What It Can Do For You," "How Title Insurance May Protect You," "Loan Options for You and Your Buyer" and "How to Keep the Capital Gains You Have Earned."
In addition to Guerrero and Merry, symposium speakers included Katy Moretti, Eagle Peak Escrow; Barbara Mullins, Fidelity National Title Co.; Theresa Tynan, Mortgage Search; and Todd Williams, IDX 1031 Exchange Services.
All participants were given a free notebook filled with reference materials to take home.
