"Walk or Run for Fun" The third annual 10K Walk or Run for Fun on the "Moose Loop" will be held the morning of Saturday, March 27, with all proceeds going to the Ramona Cancer Resource Center. The walk/fun run, which takes a scenic route through Black Canyon’s winding hills and breathtaking views, was created in memory of Gordon "Moose" Whitcomb, who died from prostate/bone cancer in 2001. His wife, Ellie, a two-time cancer survivor, founded the Ramona Cancer Resource Center, a non-profit organization that supports cancer victims, cancer survivors and families of both. She also helps widows and widowers get their lives back on track after the death of a loved one. The staging area is at 20997 Black Canyon Road. Take Highway 78 toward Julian, turn left on Magnolia Road and drive 3.2 miles. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with activities beginning at 7:30 a.m. Fifteen dollars covers registration, a T-shirt and food. Raffle tickets will be sold for a Mongoose bicycle, a life-size doll and more. For information call 788-9522. |
