Art Shows Set for Julian, Santa Ysabel Two art events are scheduled for the Julian area for May. Members of the Julian Art Guild will have their work on display in Town Hall from May 7 through May 10, according to guild president Kaja Laustsen. Laustsen says the annual spring show features a wide variety of objects created by members including stained glass, sculpture, fiber arts, jewelry and paintings. Artists will be on hand to discuss their work with visitors. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday through Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. Admission is fee. The annual Santa Ysabel Art Festival brings more than 40 Julian-area artists for a weekend of visual stimulation, music, poetry, food and entertainment, according to gallery owner Annie Rowley. Highlight of the event is an exhibit of works by local artist Joe Garcia, a nationally known wildlife and plein air painter. Others will display sculpture, photography, ceramics, woodwork, and fiber art in booths scattered around the gallery’s picturesque gardens. Poets Don Eulet and Lance Moles (with the help of Moles’ wise and psychic puppet friend LeRoy) will host a poetry fair as a part of the festival. And local bands such as Volcan Mountain Boys, Rhonda Black, Jamie Olsen, and Blake Rogers will play. The festival will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission is free. |
