"Journey to My Heart"

"Journey to My Heart" is much more than a camp — it’s an unforgettable experience for the whole family. For those who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one, Sharp HospiceCare offers an annual camp, which has helped many participants develop the coping skills needed to decrease the sense of isolation they may feel during a time of grief and create a way for healing in a supportive, nurturing environment.

Along with Sharp HospiceCare’s well-trained caring staff for counseling support groups, there will be children’s memorial art projects, an interfaith remembrance service and recreational activities for the whole family. Through campfires, songs and art projects, campers are encouraged to remember, share and learn from other’s experiences.

"Today’s families are under a lot of stress and our society doesn’t allow time for people to slow down and mourn," said Laura Grayson, Sharp HospiceCare camp coordinator. "Our hospice camp is the only three-day camp in San Diego to provide this much needed break and renew the bond and communication between families."

This year’s camp, from May 21 to May 23, will be held at Camp Stevens in Julian. A $35 attendance fee includes travel, lodging, food and therapeutic staff support. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. For more information or to request an application form, please call Sharp HospiceCare at (619) 667-1821.
