Annual RCC Gold Tourney Tees Off
by Jim Evans

Early signups are being accepted for the annual Ramona Children’s Charity Golf Tourna-ment on June 24 at Mt. Woodson Golf Club in Ramona.

Proceeds will help pay for construction of a new facility to house the Ramona Unified School District’s program for preschool and K-1 Children with severe to moderate disabilities.

"We have raised $75,000 each of the past two years, but we have a long ways to go to reach our ultimate goal," said RCC board member and sponsor Orrin Day. "Our original plans were to construct a 2,500-square-foot building, but we would like to expand it to as much as 5,000 square feet if possible, at a cost of almost $1.5 million over the next 18 months."

The new building would provide disabled students with a state-of-the-art facility equipped to meet their special needs, such as therapy, training and social-development skills and enable teachers and therapists to provide one-on-one attention to meet individual needs.

Brecht BMW once again will serve as the host sponsor and provide a new BMW as the grand prize for the designated par three hole-in-one contest. Other prizes and give-a-ways will be offered at the post-tournament dinner and awards presentation.

More than 60 different sponsors participated in last year’s event. Sponsorship packages are available by contacting Steve Herckt at (760) 789-7880 or Day at (760) 788-6710.

"We even have a ‘nongolfer’ sponsorship option for those who just want to attend the dinner and awards presentation," Day said. "It’s all for a good cause — these kids really need our help — and we hope to see as many people as possible at the shotgun start!"

Sounds like a winner — and somebody could be driving a new BMW!
