Senator Dennis Hollingsworth (R- El Cajon) recently announced that he has named Teresa Manley of Julian as Woman of the Year for the 36th Senate District, Intermountain Region.
At a July 4th ceremony in Julian, Senator Hollingsworth presented Manley with a Senate Resolution honoring her for her community assistance during and after the wildfires of 2003, and her generosity to members of the military serving in Iraq.
"Teresa Manley exemplifies the meaning of community volunteer," said Senator Hollingsworth. "When the people of Julian
needed her most, Teresa was there, extending a helping hand. Her selfless giving didn’t end with the fires, and she has continued to this day in her tireless efforts to rebuild and restore the com-munity of Julian and surrounding areas," he added.
Teresa and her husband Dan Manley own the Angels Landing Country Inn. During last fall’s wildfires the Manleys provided free lodging to evacuated fire victims at their Julian Inn. They also provided lodging to many of the firefighters who defended Julian and the mountain com-munities. After the fires, Teresa and Dan started the Julian Housing hotline through which they coordinated donations of housing, supplies and other necessities for victims of the fires.
Additionally, out of concern for the families of servicemen sent to Iraq, and as a way of saying thank you for the contributions they and their loved ones were giving to their country, Teresa contacted military chaplains to offer family members a free stay at the Angel’s Landing.
"Teresa Manley is one of the finest pillars of volunteerism and community spirit in our state," Senator Hollingsworth concluded. "It is an honor to designate her Woman of the Year for the 36th Senate District, Intermountain Region."
Dennis Hollingsworth is the Senate Republican Caucus Whip representing the 36th District, which includes inland North, and East San Diego County, portions of the City of San Diego, and Southwest Riverside County.
