Spring Celebration Picnic on the Peak

By Bobbi Zane

Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve is presenting a day long docent led hike up the mountain, culminating in a spring box lunch picnic, games, and prizes.

“This is an opportunity to enjoy lush displays of wildflowers and incredible vistas of the county,” says Jeanette Hartman, associate director of the foundation. Box lunches featuring a Taste of Julian, with a selection of items from popular local restaurants, will be available to participants.

According to Hartman, “The event will also feature a Five Oaks Trail memory challenge and a drawing an autographed print of Volcan Mountain by James Hubbell as well as prized donated by Julian merchants.”

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the hike is free. Box lunches cost $7 each and must be reserved in advance; call (760) 765-4098 by April 30. Proceeds benefit the San Diego County Parks Society parks and recreation programs.
