The Ramona Rotary Club will be sponsoring a July 4 celebration, and the whole community is invited to the festivities that evening on the ballfields behind Olive Peirce Middle School.
“It’s completely open to the public,” said David Baker, the July 4 chair for the Ramona Rotary Club.
Admission to the celebration is free, although opportunities will exist to purchase food, beverages, and other items from the vendor booths. Only non-profit organizations are allowed as vendors, and vendor contact Patrick Osio at (760) 789-0516 will be coordinating the vendor booths in an attempt to avoid duplicate vendor activity.
The celebration has a 5 p.m. starting time, although activities will run throughout the evening and Ramona residents and visitors can arrive at whatever time they desire.
Baker will be soliciting local groups to provide entertainment. “Fourth of July is about everybody,” he said. “It’s okay to be involved. It’s okay to bring to the table whatever you can.”
Baker will authorize participation, and no electrical speakers will exist so participation is limited to acoustic or non-instrumental entertainment acts. “I would like to see participation by a barbershop quartet or a bluegrass band or a Dixieland jazz band or something along those lines as community participation,” Baker said.
Interested entertainers can contact Baker for additional information at (760) 533-2220.
Unlike the focused attempt to avoid duplicate vendor goods, multiple entertainers from the same genre may be accommodated by being stationed in different corners of the ballfields.
In addition to the entertainment, members of the public will also be able to enjoy various games and possibly a rock climbing wall.
The fireworks will begin at approximately 9 p.m. and will conclude the festivities. for information call chair, David Baker at (760) 533-2220 or co-chair, Jenny Groff at (760) 789-5158.
