A community forum was held Saturday, May 14 at the library to draw a picture of our community as it is seen today and view the positive and negative aspects, along with the needs for improvement. Unanimous approval was received for the capable and cooperative library staff members; also addressed was the pressing need for more space for the ever-busy library. Suggestions from educators, Friends of the Library, residents and one interested teenager with knowledge of youth needs were documented by the facilitator and were being returned to be included in the San Diego County Library’s Five-Year Strategic Plan. The review of the information gleaned from the county’s 35 libraries will be completed Aug. 31.

The Friends President convened a meeting of the board and reviewed the procedure being introduced for resubmitting the application for the new library when state funding is available. A vote of appreciation was extended to Kurt Meyers, Tom Serio and Bernie Kuhn for their assistance in preparing the flower garden at the new library site — Many thanks for Ramona’s beauty spot!

The “Friends” Mini-Book Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 in the Community Room. Volumes of beautiful books in all categories have been donated by the community. Come in and browse — it can’t be beat for bargains: hardbacks, $1; paperbacks 25 cents; collectors’ special items $5. All will benefit the library’s programs and equipment.
