A New Approach to Traditional Chiropractics
Visitors to the Desert Mountain Wellness Center in Santa Ysabel will find a new approach to traditional chiropractic care. Dwight L. Farr, D.C., says it is “important to treat everyone as an individual — there is no single treatment that works for everybody.” People are all different and affected differently by their environments, Farr says, which is why it’s necessary to take the holistic approach when addressing body pain. “The cause of body pain could be something completely different from what we think it is. It could be unrelated,” Farr said. Neck pain actually could be stress-related, Farr says. With holistic healthcare, there is no simple “symptom cure” — you must find the root cause of the problem in order to treat it, he says. Farr takes the time to look into other aspects of a patient’s life, including diet and lifestyle, to make the proper assessment of the person’s total body health. Chiropractic is the third career for Farr, who has lived in Julian 20 years and has raised two sons here. Earlier in life he was a logger, then a computer specialist. At age 35, he went to chiropractic school. He graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and feels that he is now “a teacher, with the ability to pass knowledge” of the human body, and how it works. The Desert Mountain Wellness Center, at 21975 Highway 79, has been open since 1990 and features both traditional and “no force” approaches to chiropractic care. The “no force” methods, which include acupressure, use of pressure points, and following the body’s meridian lines, enable Farr to cater to a wide variety of patients. He recommends regular checkups because even without symptoms, a problem can exist. For information or to schedule an appointment, call (760) 765-2495.
