Mr. San Diego at Santa Ysabel Art Gallery

“Refuge,” Watercolor on Paper by Stan Sowinski

At Santa Ysabel Art Gallery, September 3 through October 9, 2005 will be Mr. San Diego, an exhibit featuring the paintings of well known San Diego artist Stan Sowinski. On exhibit will be Sowinski’s plein air landscapes and studio oil paintings, large and small. Opening reception for Stan Sowinski’s Mr. San Diego will be Saturday, September 3, 4 p.m. -8 p.m. The public is invited.

Stan Sowinski has been making art for 60 years. He is a revered San Diego painter, iconographer, illustrator, teacher and one of a handful of artists in San Diego County who is often referred to as a master painter. This exhibit takes it name from the fact that years ago this successful and popular artist was a watercolor demonstrator for the well known art supply company Grumbacher.

Santa Ysabel Art Gallery is located at 30352 Highway 78 at Highway 79 in Santa Ysabel, seven miles below Julian. A feature of the gallery is the James Hubbell Room, where the art of Hubbell, San Diego County’s internationally known artist, poet and builder of organic houses is on exhibit. Admission to the gallery is free. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., and by appointment. The gallery is closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
