The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, or RSVP, has hundreds of volunteer opportunities available to retired and senior residents 55 and over throughout the county. According to the latest edition of Aging & Independence, the following volunteer opportunities are available: San Diego County Parks & Recreation If you enjoy hiking, bicycling, or horseback riding, volunteers are needed to help patrol the more than 300 miles of trails throughout the county at Mt. Gower Park in Ramona, Sycamore Canyon/Goodan Ranch in Poway, and at Volcan Mountain in Julian. Sharp Hospice Care Volunteers are needed to provide family assistance for caregivers; companionship, errands, shopping, outings, emotional support, household assistance, and aid with “End of Life” tasks for terminally ill patients and their families in their homes and in skilled nursing facilities throughout the county. I Love a Clean San Diego Tired of seeing litter and pollution wherever you go? ILCSD needs help with pollution prevention, neighborhood beautification, beach cleanup and recycling projects. Neighborhoods for Kids East County Do you enjoy working with children? If so, foster kids need your help. Volunteers are needed for mentoring and transporting foster children to appointments through “Way Station” foster homes. The “Way Station” is a homelike environment and safe haven designed to keep at-risk children out of abusive situations while helping them remain in familiar neighborhoods and schools.
