String Quartet to Perform in Julian

The Notable String Quartet of San Diego.
By Ruth Lepper

Julian Theater Company presents The Notable String Quartet of San Diego. This exclusive, one night only performance, will feature in concert A Dean’s List of Composers.

The concert will include a wide range of musical styles to include Amy Beach’s “Quartet in One Movement” inspired by Native Inuit (Alaskan) folk songs. African-American composer William Grant Still’s “Danzas de Panama”; works he composed based on multi-ethnic folk songs from the Americas. Distinctly “American” styles including jazz, find a place in Randall Thompson’s “String Quartet No1. in D Minor.”

The Notable String also is a member of Lyric Opera San Diego Orchestra. They feature three of its members in the lead role: Robie Evans, Joan Diener and Lee Wolf, all sharing the responsibilities of first violin in the quartet. Cellist, Gordon Grubbs on the other hand, never has to wonder where to sit.

This not-to-be-missed performance will be in the Julian Town Hall, 2129 Main St, Julian, Saturday, Nov. 5. Doors open at 7:30p.m., concert begins at 8. Beer and wine service will be provided by the Julian Merchants Association, desserts provided by the Julian High School Literary Club.

Admission is $15. Seating is limited. For more information and reservations, call (760) 765-1688 or e-mail: kinpro52@msn.com.
