RESOLVE: On this first day of the New Year, to improve, to grow, to reach out and touch somebody. Friends and staff members of the Ramona Library resolve to continue its excellence of service and excel in its programming. Storytime and Crafts for the Preschoolers will continue with volunteer Julie Fuller, from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays: • Jan. 4 – “Cats and Dogs” • Jan. 11 – “Horses and Donkeys” • Jan. 18 – “Hamsters, Mice and Guinea Pigs” • Jan. 25 – “Fish and Snakes” The popular family-fun time Bilingual Storytime and Craft program will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays, Jan. 10 and 24. An additional Bilingual Storytime will begin at 2 p.m. the second Saturday of the month, Jan. 14. Come and enjoy the featured Spanish stories followed by a fun craft. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays, Donna Shelton, the Grandparents and Books volunteer, will read interesting stories for the children. January special one-time events are as follows: • Tunes and Tales at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7. Nancy Saint John will entertain with interactive stories and songs from around the world, using musical instruments, puppets, props, hats, beads and more. • After School Kids’ Crafts at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13. • Pajama and Popcorn Movie Party from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26. • The Teen Advisory Group will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11. This group is interested in community service but currently has only projects which can be accomplished in the meeting room because of the required background checks for all volunteers. The completion of this requirement is expected in the next couple of months. The December project was holiday cards for the Senior Center. Good luck, Teens, Ramona needs you! • The Adult Book Club will meet on at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and review “Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe. This is the tale of an English sailor’s struggle to survive after being marooned on a desert island, wrestling with fate and nature for 28 years. Homework Helpers are available from 4 to 5 p.m. weekdays. A teacher and aide from Mt. Woodson will assist with this special program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Reservations are not required. Computer classes continue with the library docent from 10:15 to 11 a.m. on Mondays. In addition, a new beginning computer class in Spanish will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5. Both of these classes require reservations. Call the library at (760) 738-2434. Tutors are needed for the Libraries Empower All to Read Now program, or LEARN.
