Santa Ysabel Welcomes Popular Costume Photographer

Well-known local photographer Larry Becket has relocated his costume photography studio from the upstairs loft at The Warm Hearth in Julian to the building on the corner of Highway 78 and 79 in Santa Ysabel, formerly occupied by The Giving Tree.

“We are in the process of moving everything,” said Becket, “and anticipate opening during the first weekend in February. We have much more space here, and should be able to create more interesting photographic opportunities for our customers.”

Becket has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years, specializing in photographing people in various vintage and sometimes comical costumes.

“People come from all over the world to have their picture taken with us,” says Becket, “and we always give them something memorable to take home. We have something for the whole family.”

Born and raised in Florida, Becket followed his sister Mona Lisa Becket, to California six years ago and has been a regular feature at The Warm Hearth for the past four years. Mona Lisa, a celebrated muralist whose works are nationally recognized, will be opening her own business — “Mom’s Bits & Pieces” — in the building adjoining the photography studio offering — well, bits and pieces or “a little bit of everything,” says Becket. “She will probably paint one of her murals on the exterior of the building which should be quite an attraction.”

“We will also provide space for weekend yard sales open to the community. Many local residents need more visibility to sell their wares and by combining several sales in one, we can offer more to shoppers and passersby. We might even host an occasional auction.”
