Julian Volunteer Fire StationHosts Explorer Program
By Amber Ward
The Julian Volunteer Fire Department is enabling local youth to experience a career in Fire Service. Young men and women ages 14 to 20 years are invited to join the Julian Volunteer Fire Department Explorer Program, a division of the Boy Scouts of America. The purpose of this program is to provide youth with an insight into the fire and emergency medical fields and to provide them with the information, training and experience to help decide if a career in fire and rescue is right for them.
The Explorer cadets participate in many different fire department and civic functions. They will learn firsthand what it is like to be a firefighter by working side by side with firefighters. Explorers will respond to medical emergencies along with the other firefighters and paramedics. They also assist in routine tasks around the fire station and learn about community relations, fire prevention, equipment and station maintenance, and receive priceless work experience. There is an application process to join the Fire Explorer Program. Contact the Julian Volunteer Fire Station for more information.
