Bed & Breakfast Tour Offers an Inside View at Local Lodgings
Four of Julian's prime bed-and-breakfast lodgings will open their doors to visitors on May 18 for the annual tour sponsored by the Julian Bed & Breakfast Guild. New to the tour this year is Mountain High Bed & Breakfast, owned by Martha and Scott Baker. Located on three acres in the Pine Hills area, Mountain High offers accommodations for two couples. Rose Cottage is separate from the main house and has a private redwood deck. It has a living room, bed and bath suite and full kitchen, all in rich shades of greens, pinks and yellows for a romantic French dcor. The Woods Room is in a private wing of the main house, with a separate entry through sliding French doors. It has its own patio under the apple and cherry trees. The bedroom has a cedar-paneled wall and native rock fireplace. An interesting feature of this B&B is the sky tour, offered through the observatory at Mountain High with its 14-inch, computer-guided telescope.
The new Artists' Loft Bed & Breakfast, completely rebuilt since the Cedar fire in 2003, has two bedroom suites, full kitchen and whirlpool tubs. Located adjacent to the Artists' Loft are the Cabin at Strawberry Hill and the Big Cat Cabin. Owners Nanessanse and Chuck Kimball call the cabins, "a western version of the Walden experience." Rounding out the tour will be Villa de Valor/Hildreth House, owned by Valorie Ashley. Once the home of Julian's first doctor, the quaint historic home, circa 1898, has two private suites - Suite Harmony and Suite Peace - and a separate cottage - Suite Serenity. Maps for the locations of the participating B&Bs are $10, available by calling Julian Bed & Breakfast Guild at (760) 765-1555 or Julian Chamber of Commerce at (760) 765-1857.
