Ramona's clubs and organizations offer a variety of happenings over the summer season. Read on and take advantage of the many opportunities available.
Al-Anon Family Group meets at 8 a.m. Saturdays and 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays at North Rural Recovery Center, 323 Hunter St. Visit www.alanonsandiego.org.
American Cancer Society , a nationwide, community-base voluntary health organization, provides a variety of services that can help improve the quality of life for cancer patients. The Cancer Survivors Network provides services such as discussion boards, chat rooms, personal Web pages and more. A variety of brochures and booklets are available on almost every aspect of cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment. All of the American Cancer Society programs are free and are offered at various locations throughout the county.
Anyone who has questions about cancer or is facing a cancer diagnosis can call trained ACS specialists 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (800) ACS-2345. The Cancer Survivors Network and other information is available on the Web site at www.cancer.org.
Ramona Art Guild meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Ramona Library Community Room at 1406 Montecito Road. The guild is open to artists and those interested in art. Dues are $15 annually.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego - Ramona Branch will be hosting its 16th annual golf tournament at San Vicente Inn and Golf Club on Sept. 14. A day of golf will include lunch, tee bag with towel and golf shirt, putting contest, marshmallow drive, closest to pin, hole in one, dinner, raffle, auction and awards and much more. There will be many levels of participation from event sponsor for $5,000, premier sponsor for $2,500, corporate sponsor for $1,350, tee sponsor with golf for $400, tee sponsor without golf for $250 and golfer for $200. This is the only fundraiser in the Ramona area for the Boys & Girls Club. All proceeds benefit the Ramona clubhouse and the 1,900 youth served here annually. The second annual Intermountain Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department's invitational dinner and auction will be 5 to 10 p.m. on July 22 at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center pavilion, 421 Aqua Lane. Last year's event attracted more than 280 local residents; more are expected this year. The theme, "A Night in the Islands," will feature a "Kamaaina Luau" menu with a floor show performed by Halou Hula O'Ka'co. Tickets are $40. For information, contact Gloria Folkens at (760) 787-0598.

Ramona Chamber of Commerce's July networking mixer will be hosted by RAE Automotive and Main Street Auto Care at 415 Ninth St., Ramona. The mixer will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 20. The 36th annual Ramona Country Fair sponsored by the Ramona Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers and vendors. Types of vendors will include artists, crafters, nostalgic farm equipment displays, re-enactment groups, historical displays, food vendors, nonprofit organizations and more. Ramona Country Fair is an annual fundraiser for the chamber and is staffed and funded entirely by volunteers. There are several openings on various committees that could use your talents and skills.

Ramona Council of the Arts , Unlimited is offering classes for children age 2 through adults. Classes are jazz dance/hip hop, karate, tumbling, preschool dance and movement, tot tumbling, fitness and Summer Dancin' 2006. This is the 18th year Arts Unlimited has provided an opportunity for a dance workshop in Ramona with the professional dance company, San Diego Dance Theater. The workshop students and the dance company will perform in concert on July 28 at 8 p.m. at Ramona High School. Advance tickets are $10. Ramona Garden Club will travel to Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas on July 12. Beat the summer heat; pack a lunch and put on your walking shoes to see great plant specimens. A docent tour begins at 11:45 a.m. at Quail Gardens. The club will meet at 10:30 a.m. behind Wendy's parking lot. Carpooling is available. The field trip is open to the public and replaces the monthly meeting at the library. Entrance fee to Quail Gardens is $10; senior -discounts are available. Ramona Rotary Club will host its annual July 4th Family Picnic and Fireworks program at Olive Peirce Middle School in Ramona on July 4 at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. Food booths, games and entertainment are among the activities on display.
Those coming to the event are welcome to bring their radios and tune them to KYXY-FM during the fireworks show, as well as blankets, umbrellas, low-back chairs and picnics. No alcohol is permitted. Ramona Rotary Club meets at noon Tuesdays at Ramona Sizzler,

Ramona United Methodist Church will begin registration on July 2 for its Vacation Bible School from July 31 to Aug. 4. This year's theme is "Adventure of the Treasure Seekers: Exploring God's Promises." Every child will love the adventure of being a - "treasure seeker." From 9 to 11:30 a.m., children will build relationships as they experience hands-on Bible adventures, play team-building games, create crafts, enjoy catchy songs about God and His promises, and have snacks. Ramona Valley Vineyard Association is a "grape-roots" organization that meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at members' homes/vineyards. The group discusses topics such as viticulture and other matters of interest to the vineyard and winemaking community. Current projects include encouragement of new vineyard development, vineyard expansion and utilization of sustainable agricultural practices. Ramona Valley is designated as an American Viticultural Area. The next RVVA meeting will be 7 p.m. on July 25. New members and visitors are welcome. Ramona Women's Connection will meet at
11:30 a.m. on July 19 for a "Historical Show & Tell" program. Bring an object of interest to share that is at least 100 years old. It will be interesting to see treasured articles of antiquity. Also on the luncheon program will be speaker Vicki Caldwell who will describe how to "Find Peace in the Eye of the Storm." The "True North" woman's trio of Ramona will perform several vocal selections. The meeting is a salad-bar luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Ramona Sizzler, 344 Main St. Tickets are $8.50. Trauma Intervention Programs (TIP) of San Diego County, Inc. , is a non-profit organization that partners with the Ramona and Barona fire departments and county sheriff's department to assist citizens in crisis following a tragic event. Volunteers are needed for the crisis intervention programs in Ramona, Poway and the Barona Reservation. Training academy begins July 6 to 17 with 50 hours of training at Poway Fire Station No. 3 on Pomerado Road in Poway. No prior experience is necessary to attend the training or to become a volunteer.
