Congratulations to Julian High School Graduating Class of 2006!
Story and Photos By Amber Ward

Salutatorian, Anna Dawson.
Julian High School's Class of 2006 commencement ceremony took place June 9. It started with associated student body president Cairn Riney welcoming those in attendance after the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance" procession of the graduating class.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Michael Homiston, who will join the US Marine Corps, and Travis Fisher, who will join the US Army Rangers.

Anna Dawson and Alison Hurst, senior class co-presidents, presented the gift from the senior class, an eagle mural painted in the school's multi-purpose room by local artist Nadine Neth.

Aaron Smith, who will go on to Brigham Young University, was presented as valedictorian, and Anna Dawson, who will attend University of California, Los Angeles, was salutatorian.

Teacher Lorna Thomas congratulated the recipients of the awards and scholarships. An estimated 49 percent of Julian's graduating class received scholarships. A total of $49,000 was awarded to those who had applied, and more than one-half of that amount was from local groups and organizations from Julian and Ramona.

The class song, "Free Bird," was sung by Julia Adams and accompanied by Cairn Riney, Hans Kinder and Aaron Smith. Jessica Goodlett elicited laughter with the senior class history that began in kindergarten because so many Julian students have been classmates since the beginning of their school careers.

Superintendent/Principal Brian Bristol presented the graduating class to Frank Spevacek, president of the board of trustees. Members of the governing board awarded diplomas to the 47 graduating students. After reciting the school's Alma Mater, Anna Dawson and Alison Hurst led the "Turning of the Tassels."
