Julian's Fourth of July Parade kicks off with pre-parade activities at 10 a.m. and the parade starting at noon on Main Street. The Julian

parade features many local hand-made floats, Miss Julian and the new Teen Miss Julian, the Julian High School Eagles Marching Band, members of the 4-H club and their animals, the American Legion Post 468 Color Guard, the century old Mack Stage truck, a horse-drawn steam-powered fire engine built in 1902, local llamas, classic cars, and of course Julian's famous Floozies. More than 5,000 visitors are expected to attend so be sure to get your spot on Main Street early. Starting at 10:15 a.m. a roaring, barrel-rolling fly over by Bob Grundzik in his vintage World War II aircraft will take place.   • Julian Woman's Club hosts its annual Heritage Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through July 4 at the Julian Town Hall. The theme is "Down on

    the Farm" and this year's "Opportunity Quilt" is a queen-size, Dresden Plate pattern made by Eleanor Burns and members of the Julian Woman's Club. Opportunity tickets will be sold at the quilt show.

  • The Town Hall Crafters will hold a craft show in the Julian Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through July 4.

  • Julian Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly mixer from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 6 at the Cole Building on Main Street There will be a no-host bar and hors d'oeuvre. Bring a door prize to support your business. Contact the chamber at (760)765-1857 for more information.

  • "Summer Nights" kicks off July 7 in Wynola and on July 8 in Julian and will continue through July 29. Shopkeepers will keep their doors open extra hours. Live music will be at Julian Town Hall and the Julian Coffee House on Saturdays. Sponsored by the Julian Chamber of Commerce and the Julian Merchants Association, all are invited to enjoy Julian's warm summer nights.

  • A guided hike at the Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve East will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 8. Join the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy on to celebrate the opening of the Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve and learn about the cultural and biological significance of the area. This moderately strenuous hike will begin at the Forestry gate at the end of Farmer Road. Call (858) 755-6956 for more information and to reserve a space.

  • Harry Schlitz will be at the Julian branch library at 3:30 p.m. July 11 with his husky dogsled team that raced in the Iditarod, the famous Alaskan dogsled race. Learn how these incredible dogs work, play and double as special therapy dogs.

  • James Lightner, author of "San Diego Native Plants," will be signing books at 4 p.m. July 15 and giving a presentation on the plants General Kearny saw at Warner Hot Springs. The event is presented by Warner Springs Ranch and sponsored by the Warner Springs Historical Society and Cultural Association. For more information, contact Jeff Brown at (760) 782-4279.

  • Robb Bower presents "Blues Bash 8, Destination Blues" from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 15 at Menghini Winery. Headlining are the "Fuzzy and the "Bluesmen," "Guitarboy," "Aunt Kizzy'z Boyz," "The .44's," "Michael John and the Bottom Line" and "Blackthorne Murray."   • The Home Show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 29 to Aug. 3 at the Julian Town Hall.

  • Montezuma Valley Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual barbecue fundraiser on Aug. 26. There will be a barbecue beef dinner, live music, a dunk tank and jumper for children, horseshoes and a raffle. The event will take place at 37370 Montezuma Valley Road, Ranchita.   • Society of American Magicians will be expanding its San Diego County Assembly to the backcountry. Master Magician Freddy, president of the society's Assembly No. 40 and a resident of Warner Springs, will host a monthly meeting once a month at Books in Nooks in Wynola.
