Santa Ysabel Gallery Shows "Flux"

Afternoon, West View
The art of contemporary painter Margaret Larlham will be on display at the Santa Ysabel Art Gallery Sept. 2 through Oct. 1.

Titled "FLUX: Time and Change and Landscape," the show will feature work done in oil, acrylic and mixed media.

Painting for Larlham is an exploration of all the art elements - not emotional, not premeditated. She expresses a crossing of cultures in her use of images.

In addition, natural events figure a great deal as themes in her work: a fire from her childhood in South Africa; and the devastation brought on by Hurricane Katrina, are two examples.

Born in South Africa, Larlham has lived in San Diego with her husband and children since 1986. She teaches at the School of Theatre, Television and Film at San Diego State University.

She also enjoys writing and directing plays.

The opening reception for "Flux" is set for 6 p.m. at the gallery, 30352 Highway 78 at Highway 79 in Santa Ysabel, seven miles south of Julian. Admission is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday. For more information, call 760-765-1676.
