Library Pre-School Programs

"Bi-lingual Story Hour and Craft" has changed to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, and the "Coloring Table" will continue to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the Julian Library.

Craft Show

The Dawn Kirk Crafters "Weed and Craft Show" will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 20 through Sept. 4 at the Julian Town Hall.

Fine Arts Show

Julian Arts Guild "Fall Fine Arts Show" will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 1- 4 at the Julian Town Hall.

Annual Grape Stomp

The Annual Grape Stomp Festa will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 2 at Menghini Winery. There will be live Italian music, dancing, bocce ball competitions, grape stomping, wine tasting, a variety of food and crafts for sale and a jump house for the kids. Admission is $10 for adults (includes a commemorative wine glass), $5 for ages 6 to 12, and children 5 and under are free. Dinner and Jazz

The Pine Hills Lodge presents "The Hot Club San Diego" at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 at the lodge. Come and enjoy an evening of romantic, high energy swing and jazz music heard in the night clubs of Paris in the 1930s. There will be a special French menu to compliment the evening. Guided Hike

Meet at the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve trail head at 9 a.m. Sept. 3 for a guided hike up the mountain. Call 760-765-4098, for more information.

Storyteller

Harlynne Geisler will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a "Fiesta of Hispanic Folk Tales" at 3 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the Julian Library.

Chamber Mixer

Julian Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly mixer from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Dudley's Bakery in Santa Ysabel. There will be a no-host bar and refreshments. Bring a door prize to promote your business. Contact the chamber at 760-765-1857, for more information.

Julian Library's Second Birthday

The Julian Community Library is 2 years-old Sept. 12, stop by for a tasty treat on this celebrated day.

Bluegrass Pickin' Party

Join several of the Bluegrass Festival musicians for an open jam session from 6:30 p.m. to close Sept. 15 and 16 at the Pine Hills Lodge. Annual Bluegrass Festival

The 36th Annual Julian Lions Club Bluegrass Festival and Banjo/Fiddle Contest will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 16 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept.17 at Frank Lane Park in Julian. This is a Lions Club fundraiser that also shares the title of the "Oldest Bluegrass Festival in California." Saturday, Sept. 16 will feature the Banjo/Guitar contest and Sunday, Sept. 17 will feature the Fiddle/Mandolin contest. Contests are for all ages and all levels, and participants can register online at www.julianbluegrass.com.Tickets are $15, and if purchased by Sept. 15 include the parking fee (a $5 value). Folkloric Dancers

El Tesoro de Jamul Folkloric Dancers will dance at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Julian Library. Noted for its dancing technique, as well as its colorful regalia, the group represents several parts of Mexico. Come and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Julian Library.

Craft Show

The Dawn Kirk Crafters' "Arts & Crafts Show" will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 16-17 at the Julian Town Hall.

Ice Cream Social

The Julian Historical Society presents its "Annual Ice Cream Social" at 5 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Heritage Park, next to the Julian Museum. All are invited, and ice cream, toppings and cookies will be provided.

JMA Breakfast Mixer

Julian Merchants Association will hold its monthly breakfast Sept. 20 at the Julian Pie Co., 2225 Main St. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and will be followed by guest speaker, Maureen Sinkiewicz, from Union Bank. She will be discussing "Identity Theft" and how you can protect yourself. Join the merchants for great networking opportunities and good company. JMA Open House

Kids Fishing Derby

The "Fishin' in the Pines" Free Kids Fishing Derby will take place Saturday, Sept. 23 at Lake Cuyamaca. Fishing begins at 6 a.m. and registration begins at 8 a.m. All fish must be weighed in by 12:45 p.m. and prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m. The prizes will be awarded by Congressman Duncan Hunter and hosted by the All Outdoors Radio Network "Talking, Fishing, Hunting, and a Whole Lot More" on KCBQ-AM 1170. There will also be a raffle for the adults and a free drawing where all children will have a chance to win reels, rods, fishing trips and more. Don't miss the clowns, the face painting and the free lunch at 11:30 a.m. All proceeds benefit children's programs at Lake Cuyamaca. For more information, call 760-765-0515.

Menghini Arts and Music Festival

The 20th Annual Menghini Winery Arts, Wine and Music Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23-24 at the Menghini Winery. The event is free and open to the public. Several local artists working in glass, clay, wood, painting and more will be exhibiting and selling their work. There will be wine tasting, live country music and an appearance by the Mountain Gypsy belly dancers. For more information, contact Charlotte Mitchell at 760-765-2569.

Miner's Blowout

Mark your calendar for the "Julian Woman's Club Miner's Blowout" from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 30. This mining theme, fundraising event, will feature a silent auction, appetizers and a steak dinner, games and prizes, live music and more. There will also be a "Best Dressed Miner" costume contest. All proceeds go to the Julian Woman's Club Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance. Rendezvous

The 20th Annual Laguna Mountain Rendezvous will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 3 through 8 on Mesa Grande Road in Santa Ysabel. See history come alive in this authentic 1700s-1840s Rocky Mountain Fur Trader's Encampment. There will be primitive archery demonstrations and a grand raffle.
