Lawley Enchants Borrego

Photo from www.fiddlegirl.com
Celia Lawley swept away the audience at a Dec. 2 performance at the Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center.

Performing works from "The Majesty of Simplicity," Lawley wove a spell of nature's romance with her lyrical voice and masterful song writing.

She and her band, Thunder Rose, performed original songs from her latest recordings as well as fiery fiddle favorites. Lawley also previewed her new single "Yaquitepec" and donated a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the single during the concert to the Anza-Borrego Foundation, which is opposed to the proposed SDG&E Powerlink project.

During the show, Lawley sang and played fiddle, (wowing the audience with her Appalachian mountain style clogging while she fiddled) mandolin, guitar, accordion, piano and tin flute.

The following is from "Yaquitepec"

"...And who will inherit the wealth of this place?

Will it be you, will it be me?

Will we open our hearts to its precious gifts

Dressed in the majesty of simplicity

Oh Yaquitepec

Your spirit fiercely calls my name

on softest breeze the agave

Play a desert refrain..."
