Veterans Visit Sun Valley Charter High School

Veterans of America's armed forces met with students at Sun Valley Charter High School to discuss their service to our country during a Veteran's Day Assembly at the school on November 9th.

The assembly was the brainchild of history teacher Mike French, who wanted students to see the faces and hear the stories of the people who protect their freedoms on a daily basis.

This year's assembly included veterans from all four branches of military service. The veterans in attendance participated in foreign wars ranging from World War II to the Gulf War and included one active duty sailor.

The participants were Chuck Lawless (Navy), Ken Dower (Marines), Robert Darron (Marines), Larry Littlefield (Air Force), Ron Craighead (Navy), and Robert Wakefield (Army).

The students listened with interest to each speaker and had a chance to ask questions in a small setting. Several students expressed their appreciation for the service rendered by the veterans. Many left the assembly with a better understanding of the personal commitment of those who serve in the military.
