Calling All Birders!
By Amber Ward

The Birdwatcher is hosting its first Bird Feeding Contest in honor of National Bird Feeding Month. The contest began the first of February, and will continue through March 31.

The object is to count as many different species of birds that visit your feeders as possible. The Birdwatcher will be running two contests at once, one for the Julian area and the other for the Ramona area.

The rules for the contest are simple; all species of seed-eating and nectar-drinking birds at your feeders count, including Borrego Springs Road-Runners. However, Ramona Turkey Vultures will not count. The contest will run on the honor system.

E-mail the Birdwatcher your weekly count list, at julianbird watcher@yahoo.com, and they will post the top five contestants each week.

One winner from the Julian area and one winner from the Ramona area will each receive a grand prize including one 40-pound bag of Birdwatcher Supreme wild bird seed and one case of premium suet. If desired, winners will also have their names posted on the official Birdwatcher Web site and in the store.

For more information about The Birdwatcher Contest, go to www.thebirdwatcher.net, or call 760-765-1817. The Birdwatcher is located at 2775 B St. in Julian and has everything to get both the amateur and professional birdwatcher set for the contest.
