Sixth Annual "Pioneer Day" ~ April 28

The Ramona Pioneer Historical Society presents its sixth annual "Pioneer Day" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 on the museum grounds, 645 Main St. A variety of activities and events will be offered free of charge.

There will be mule rides up and down Main Street for a nominal fee. Ramona resident Jean Honsowetz will be firing up his blacksmith shop for on-site demonstrations. Kirsten Osborn and her 4-H group will add a festive touch. Local spinners and weavers will be on hand for demonstrations of their handiwork. Buck and Alice Polk will bring some of their outstanding quilt and feed sack collections.

Tom O'Mary, producer and director of "Sheriff of Contention, Scared," will be in western garb along with several actors.

Chuck Preble, Julian author and writer, will team up with Larry Edwards to establish an 1830s Corps of Rediscovery encampment, complete with mountain men uniforms and equipment. Preble's latest book, "Back County Reflections," will be available. It is a collection of his eastern San Diego County historical articles.

Providing the appropriate musical background will be the Kiwani-Kats, Ramona's harmonica band. Refreshments will be available. Tours of the historic Verlaque House will be available for $3 for adults and 50 cents for children 12 and under. For those in western dress the tour is free.
