The "Community Spirit Scholarship" provides financial support for a student pursuing education beyond high school. The amount available ranges from $2,000 up to $18,000.

This year's scholarship winners are Jacqueline Alva and Matthew Lane.

"Matthew is the most passionate guy about what he wants to do that I have ever met," says Jeff Funk, chairman of the scholarship committee.

"There is no doubt that he wants to be a musician and wants to teach music. Matthew is involved in all kinds of music activities in high school and has won numerous awards."

"Jacqueline very much wants to become a registered nurse," Funk says. "She is working as a volunteer at Pomerado Hospital. Her teachers say she is compassionate and sensitive and reaches out to help others."

Recipients of the award must have demonstrated high academic potential, be a positive role model, show leadership potential and have the motivation necessary to succeed and complete their advanced education.

By supporting the RFCC, Funk says donors and shoppers are supporting the scholarship fund. The RFCC is located at 773 Main St. For more information, the RFCC can be reached at 760-789-5056, or visit ramonafoodandclothescloset.org.
