Julian Doves & Desperados
The Julian Doves & Desperados will be performing historic comedy skits at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. (weather permitting) Sundays at the stage area between Cabbages & Kings and the Julian Market & Deli. For more information, call 760-765-1857.

Julian Grape Stomp Festa
Sept. 1 is the 11th Annual Julian Grape Stomp Festa at Menghini Winery. Taking place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., this event promises fun for the whole family with live music, a jumbo jump for kids and wine tasting with several local wineries for the adults. Admission is $10, which includes a commemorative wineglass. Children 12 and under $5 and children 5 and under are free. For more information, call 760-765-1857.

BBQ Fundraiser
Sept. 1 is the Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department's 30th Annual Labor Day BBQ Fundraiser. The event includes a barbecue, raffle, jump house, games, crafts and vendor booths, 1929 fire truck rides, beer gardens and old-fashioned dunk tanks. There will also be helicopter rides for $20 a person over the mountain. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guided Hike
There will be a guided hike up Volcan Mountain Sept. 1. Meet at the Volcan Mountain trailhead at 4 p.m. For more information, call 760-765-4098.

Mt. Laguna Living History
The Laguna Mountain Volunteer Association presents Living History Sept. 1 and 2 at the Red-Tailed Rooster Volunteer Headquarters near Mt. Laguna. There will be hourly presentations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.  Admission is free. For more information, go to www.lmva.org, or call 619-473-8547.

Weed & Craft Show
Dawn Kirk Crafters will be hosting its annual Weed & Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sept. 3 at the Julian Town Hall.

Fall Fine Arts Show
The Julian Arts Guild will be presenting its annual Fall Fine Arts Show, "A Road Trip Through Julian," through Sept. 3 in the Julian Town Hall. Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Monday.  A reception for the public will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. For more information, call 760-765-1825.

Althea Brimm: Featured Artist at Santa Ysabel Art Gallery
Althea Brimm, a collage artist, will be featured at the Santa Ysabel Art Gallery through September. The exhibit, "Fragments: Lost and Found," will be Brimm's third show at the gallery. Opening reception for the exhibit will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 1. Santa Ysabel Art Gallery is located at 30352 Highway 78 in Santa Ysabel. Chamber Mixer
The Julian Chamber of Commerce's monthly mixer will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Cole Building on Main Street. There will be a no host bar, hors d'oeuvres and a raffle. Bring a door prize and promote your business. For more information, call 760-765-1857.

Home Show
The Home Show will be at the Julian Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 7-9, 14-16, 21-23 and Sept. 28 through Oct. 1.

Craft Show
The Town Hall Crafters will be at the Julian Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 7-9, 21-23 and Sept. 28-30.

Log Home Open House
Log Home Castles invites residents to tour a log home as it is being built from 9 a.m. to noon, Sept. 8. For directions or to RSVP, call 760-765-1117 or e-mail info@loghomecastles.com.

Live Music

Community Party at Jess Martin Park
Friends of Jess Martin Park, and the families of AYSO Soccer and Pony Baseball are holding a "Party at the Park" on Sept. 15. Bring a picnic dinner and a blanket, and enjoy some live music and great company. The evening's festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. Following the "Party at the Park," the county of San Diego's Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting a movie night at the park. "E.T.-The Extraterrestrial" will be showing on a jumbo screen located at the backstop of Mustang Field at 8 p.m.  

"Take the Plunge" Party
All Julian 4th through 8th graders are invited to a water-park theme party hosted by  The Word Club. Dive into the fun at the school Monday, Sept. 10, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Splash into "oceans of motion" water games lead by Rev. Rick Malec. Refreshments will be available. Bluegrass Festival
The 37th Annual Bluegrass Festival and Banjo-Fiddle Contest will take place Sept. 15 and 16 at Frank Lane Park. Presented by the Julian Lions Club, the festival will be located at the north end of Main Street in Julian. Festival hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased on-line or from the Julian Chamber of Commerce until Sept. 14. For more information go to www.julianbluegrassfestival.com.

Guided Hike
A guided hike through the Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve will take place Sept. 16. Meet at the Farmer Road staging area at 10 a.m. For more information, call 760-765-4098.

Merchant Open House 
Businesses located in the Cole Building will be hosting the Sept. 17 Julian Merchants Association Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Meet the business owners and enjoy some light refreshments. For more information, call 760-765-4758.

Merchant Breakfast
The Julian Merchant Association's Monthly Breakfast will take place Sept. 19 at Mountain High Bed and Breakfast. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a guest speaker.  The cost is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. For more information, call 760-765-4758.

Kids Fishing Derby
"Fishin' in the Pines" Free Kids Fishing Derby will take place Sept. 22 at Lake Cuyamaca. Sponsored by the San Diego Anglers, there will be a free lunch at 11:30 a.m. for those who participate. The fishing will begin at 6 a.m., registration is at 8 a.m. and all fish must be weighed in by 12:45 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m. For more information, call 760-765-0515.

Ranchita Rocks
Sept. 28-30 Ranchita Rocks will help raise awareness of how to defeat the Sunrise Powerlink. This three-day festival includes 37 bands, 22 comedians and 16 DJs. There will also be a Rock'n Marketplace featuring food, wine and beer, handmade crafts and a Kid Zone. This event is sponsored by the Santa Ysabel Resort and Casino. Menghini Arts, Wine & Music Festival
The annual Menghini Arts, Wine & Music Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29 and 30 at the Menghini Winery.  The festival features artists from the Julian Arts Guild, as well as other San Diego County artists, live music, wine tasting and food. Apple Days Festival
The Julian Apple Days Festival will take place Oct. 6 and 7 at Menghini Winery. In celebration of Julian's apples and its history, the festival will feature a variety of apple products, arts and crafts, games, contests and entertainment. Octoberfest
St. Elizabeth's annual Octoberfest will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 and 7 in the Rabobank parking lot on Main Street. There will be live music, dancing, food, beer and face painting and balloons for the kids.  Admission is free, and all proceeds benefit St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.
