FIRE UPDATE
Water Situation Remains Critical
By Ruth Lepper

The water situation in Ramona remains critical, with workers on the job around the clock. Ron Mulick, of Ramona Municipal Water District, said Thursday morning that about one-third of the water meters in the district have been turned off in an effort to allow more pressure to get into the main lines.

Two generators are up and running at the pump station in Poway, as of Wednesday morning.

"We're still filling the pipe lines," Mulick said at 9 a.m. Thursday. "There is no storage yet. It hasn't gotten up high enough to get into the lines."

Before the fire, RMWD was providing 7 million gallons of water per day to its customers. The demand is much greater now with water needed to fight the fires, Mulick said that reaching 7.5 million gallons on Thursday is not enough.

The "boil water alert" remains in effect for anyone who has stayed in Ramona.
