Before You BOO! Check Out These Things To Do…
By Tracy Rolling

The Haunted House at the Ramona Chamber is always a popular stop on Halloween night. Ramona Home Journal File Photo
Old-fashioned fun won't be hard to find this October as the streets of Ramona brew with ghoulish goblins and ghostly goodies. Well, not really - but the town will have plenty of activities for youngsters of all ages.

Oct. 1-31 Mountain Valley Ranch and Pumpkin Patch becomes a fall wonderland. Families can enjoy the three-acre pumpkin patch, as well as a barn full of goodies on hand for purchase.

Other ranch activities include a two-acre corn maze, petting zoo, climbing goat pen, corn cannon and a concession stand that serves snow cones and warm apple cider.

Picnickers are welcome to take in the sights and sounds, and ranch owners Clay and Joyce Hatch say that pumpkin experts will be on-hand to advise buyers of the best picks possible.

Whether you're in the market for pumpkins designed for carving, sweet white pumpkins (a key ingredient to holiday baking) or a 300-pounder, you're sure to find an assortment of pumpkins accompanied by whimsically shaped gourds, Indian maize corn and popping corn.

On Thursday, Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Ramona Boys and Girls Club (BGC) will host a Halloween play and fall festival at Collier Park. Activities include roasting hot dogs, face painting and a Halloween flashlight egg hunt. Children must be accompanied by an adult and there is a fee of $2 per plate.

On Friday, Oct. 26, teens will have a Halloween egg hunt, followed by a scary movie and popcorn. Membership is required for this event. See club for details.

The BGC will also host a Halloween carnival open to the public from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Collier Park. Attractions for this event include a party jump, carnival games, a costume contest, prize table and even a cakewalk.

Many local churches, schools, and recreational parks will hold fall carnivals and Halloween hikes open to the public.

Mt. Woodson Elementary PTA is holding its annual SPOOKTACULAR Fall Carnival from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the school. Families will enjoy games, carnival booths, prizes, a haunted house, and all sorts of fun, including some tables filled with goodies, or perhaps, it's "ghoulies."

James Dukes Elementary PTA is also hosting a fall carnival from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the school. There will be vendors, games and students will sell food prepared earlier at the Montecito High School kitchen. All games are 50 cents a ticket.

The Ramona Chamber of Commerce invites children to the "Safe Merchants Trick or Treat" on Main Street beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Participating stores will award treaters and trickers alike.

Now, I've asked around town and shared what I found; a few things for you to go do…

So enjoy your eats as you pass out treats, and surprise a few neighbors or two…"BOO!"
