Julian Apple Days Festival at Menghini Winery

Fun for the entire family is promised at the Julian Apple Days Festival on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7, at Menghini Winery. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Activities include an apple-spoon race, apple croquet, apple bocce ball, face painting, a pumpkin patch and panning for gold at a gold mine display.

The event will also feature u-pick apples, barbecue, cider and a beer and wine garden. David Klumpf will host DJ music and karaoke, and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, the band "Kemosabe" will play.

According to Julian Merchant Association President Tracy Turner, there will be numerous events throughout Julian during October and November, all to continue the celebration of Apple Days.

"Apple Days in Julian is traditionally the time of year when the apples are ripe and ready to pick, from the beginning of September through mid-November," says Turner. "Throughout the town, we will really just be celebrating a long harvest party."

For example, Leg-Up Ranch will showcase some of its therapeutic animals next door to the Julian Coffee House at 1921 Main Street. The St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, at Fourth and B streets, will host an Oktoberfest, and the K.O. Corral at 2608 B St. will feature a Celebration of Children.

Doves and Desperados will reenact history as they perform historic comedy skits on stage near the intersection of Main and Washington. The group performs three times on Sundays; show times are at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Pumpkin decorating will be held at a pumpkin patch at the Rabobank parking lot on Main Street on Oct. 13, 20 and 27.
