Julian Doves & Desperados

Triangle Club's Old Time Melodrama
The Julian Triangle Club presents its Old Time Melodrama at the Julian Town Hall every weekend in October. Show times are 7 p.m. Fridays, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays. Don't miss this Julian tradition. For more information, go to www.julian melodrama.com.
Storytime
Every Wednesday at 11 a.m. meet with friends for the Preschool Storytime & Craft at the Julian Library.
Sit and Fit for Seniors
Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Matt Cramer of Alpine Physical Therapy will instruct participants in gentle exercises, increasing strength and flexibility while using a chair for stability at the Julian Library.
Latino Family Literacy Project-ESL
Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m., professional educator and instructor Yvonne Edman will assist Latino families with English language development. Using the VISTA Method of learning, this free course uses step-by-step literacy instruction that involves family reading and vocabulary development. All materials, books and supplies used are in a simple format, bilingual and free.
Computer Help
Every Thursday at 10 a.m. computer tutoring is available with Colleen, Julian's Reference Librarian.
Yoga
Good Morning Yoga with Karen Mills is at 9 a.m. Fridays at the Julian Library. De-stress and start the weekend off feeling balanced and alive.
Craft Show
The Dawn Kirk Crafters "Fall Arts & Crafts Show" will be at the Julian Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 1-31.
Chamber Mixer
The Julian Chamber of Commerce monthly mixer will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Butterfield Bed & Breakfast on 2284 Sunset Drive in Whispering Pines. There will be a no-host bar and refreshments. Bring a door prize to promote your business. For more information, call 760-765-1857.
Homecoming
Oct. 5 is Julian's Homecoming. The Homecoming parade will take place at 1 p.m. on Main Street. The coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen and their Court will take place before the Julian Eagles kick off against Calvin Christian at 3:30 p.m.
Rendezvous
A chance to enjoy living history, the Annual Laguna Mountain Rendezvous will take place Oct. 5-15 in Santa Ysabel. Gates open at 8 a.m. This step back in time allows you to visit and enjoy a North American Fur Trade encampment. History comes alive with old tents, clothing, music, period firearms and more. Meet a cast of colorful characters dressed in authentic costume, surrounded by historical artifacts, eager to share with you what life was like pre-1840. United Methodist Church
Fall Festival
A Fall Festival will be hosted by the United Methodist Women of the Community United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 in Bennett Hall. Some items being sold include fine china, glassware, crafts, plants, baked goods, antiques, jewelry, paintings and more. All funds raised will support the church missions locally and nationally for needy women and children. For more information, call 760-765-2065.

Apple Days Festival
The Julian Apple Days Festival will take place Oct. 6 and 7 at Menghini Winery. In celebration of Julian's apples and its history, the festival will feature a variety of apple products, arts and crafts, games, contests and entertainment. Oktoberfest
St. Elizabeth's annual Oktoberfest will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 6 and 7 in the Rabobank parking lot on Main Street. There will be live music, dancing, food, beer, and face painting and balloons for the kids. Admission is free, and all proceeds benefit St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.
Letter Boxing Explained
Tricia Ellisara explains "Letter Boxing" at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Julian Library. Letter boxing is a recreational activity that requires some navigational skills, and a set of predetermined clues, to locate boxes placed in particular areas by others. The boxes contain a visitors' book and a rubber stamp. You use the stamp to record your find in your own book and then mark the
visitors' book with another stamp of your own.
Log Home Seminar

Kumeyaay: A History
The Friends of the Julian Library present "Kumeyaay: A History" with Michael Connolly Miskwish Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Julian Library Community Room.
Merchant's Breakfast
Julian Merchants Association will hold its monthly breakfast Oct. 17 at Julian Coffee House at 1921 Main St. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and will be followed by the guest speaker. Join the merchants for great networking opportunities and good company. The breakfast is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. For more information, call 760-765-4758.
Thursday After-School Program
Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. is the Third Thursday After-school Program at the Julian Library.
4-H Club Horse Project
Oct. 19 at 2:30 p.m. participate in a 4-H Club Horse Project at the Julian Library. Ages 9 and up are invited to attend.
Preschool Fundraiser
Oct 21, the American Legion will host a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser for the Julian Community Preschool. Breakfast is all-you-can-eat for $6, kids 2 and under eat free. The event will take place from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the American Legion on 2503 Washington Street.
Beading Workshop
Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. Dale and Patty Strong of Mountain Beadworks will present a free beading class at the Julian Library.
Henna Tattoos for Teens
Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. artist Natasha Poupovsek will be drawing Henna tattoos on teens at the Julian Library. There are more than 100 designs of these non-permanent tattoos to choose from.
Open Studios Art Tour
The Open Studios Art Tour will feature local Julian artists and allow you to visit their working studios. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26-28. This self-guided tour of several artists' studios takes place within a seven-mile radius of Julian. Free maps are available at the Julian Town Hall and Wynola Pizza Express. Halloween Carnival
The annual Julian Elementary Halloween Carnival will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Julian Elementary School. Be sure to wear your costume.
Pumpkin Carving for Teens
Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. teens are invited to turn pumpkins into Jack-O-Lanterns at the Julian Library. Pumpkins and tools will be provided, along with refreshments. Registration is required.
