Writers for Ramona Home Journal and Julian Journal scooped five honors in the highly competitive Excellence in Journalism Awards from the San Diego Press Club.
Ernie Barrera garnered two awards in the science and technology category. His second-place award was for "Dark Skies a Local Delight," published in the Julian Journal. "Snake Season in Full Slither," a Ramona Home Journal article, placed third.
Tracy Rolling was a second-place winner in the history category with "Untold Legend of the Kenilworth Inn," from Ramona Home Journal. Kathy Fairbanks also won a second-place award for "Half the Wheels - Twice the Fun" in the gardening category. The article appeared in Ramona Home Journal.
Ruth Lepper's profile on the late Otila Woodhall earned third-place honors. "Otila Woodhall leaves behind a legacy" was a feature story in Ramona Home Journal.
In excess of 400 entries set a new record for the 34th annual competition. The entries were judged by 150 professional journalists from around the country.
