FEMA Still Assisting Fire Victims

The FEMA deadline to register after the October fires was Jan. 9, but FEMA is still helping victims. Under certain circumstances, some fire victims may still register with the agency.

FEMA urges residents to call its helpline, 800-621-FEMA (TTY 800-462-7585) Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Call the helpline if you find more wildfire damage; wildfire-related flooding has caused new damage; your insurance settlement is more or less than was expected; your contact information changes; or you have a legitimate, documented reason for not being able to file by the Jan. 9 deadline.

FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Hall urges residents who have registered to stay in touch with FEMA. "It's important to keep FEMA informed of any changes that might affect your eligibility, or how much assistance you could receive. If we're hit by more heavy rain in the burn areas, people who get flooding or mud and debris flow damage should let us know right away."
