Fire Safe Council Offers Free Chipping Service

The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County, in partnership with the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County, is offering a no-cost chipping service for fuel reduction to property owners in Ramona, Julian, Santa Ysabel, Warner Springs and other communities in the county.

To take advantage of this program, residents must abide by these guidelines:

• There is a 10-inch maximum on limb diameter.

• Crews cannot chip brush or limbs that have been removed from the ground by tractors or other heavy machinery.

• Piles may not be more than 6-feet high.

• Brush and limbs should be stacked within five feet of the road edge with cut ends facing the road.

• Piles should be located where the chipping machine can access them.

In addition, materials should be free of mud, rocks, construction wood and other debris. No trash will be accepted. Chipped material will be left at the site and will not be hauled away.

This service is offered once per property and is dependent upon funding availability, so residents are advised to call without delay. Contact Tina Burnett, Fire Safe Council Assistant by email at TBurnett@FireSafeSDCounty.org, call her at 619-562-0096 or log on to www.FireSafeSDCounty.org.
