Mobbin Minis-Perfect Backcountry Utility Vehicle
Mobbin Minis owner Rick Karr believes his imported Japanese mini 4-by-4 trucks are perfect for backcountry property owners. Even though they're not street-legal, the trucks can be customized for a variety of large-acreage uses. Rick is able to fit the four-wheel-drive trucks with snowplows and snow tires (for Santa Ysabel and Julian), tractor tracks, and even a hydraulic dump bed for moving gravel, landscaping material and animal feed. The trucks are powered by a 660 cc, 3-cylinder, 45-horsepower Japanese motor, and have a top speed of 55 miles per hour. They're easy on gas, too, getting up to 50 miles per gallon. Many of his truck customizations can be done in one week. Karr knows that a number of homeowners with large country lots currently use golf carts as utility vehicles. His mini trucks offer enclosed, climate-controlled cabs and six-foot beds. Plus, they look great! Karr's base of operations is in San Clemente, but growing up in North County and his travels to the desert made him aware of the unique needs in San Diego's backcountry.
