| Brian Jones, candidate for the 52nd Congressional District currently held by Rep. Duncan Hunter, received support from a coalition of firefighters representing nearly every firefighter association, and nearly every city and unincorporated area in the 52nd District.
"I'm very thankful for the firefighting endorsements that I've received," said Jones, a member of the Santee City Council. "I consider it an honor that the firefighters in this district have looked at my experience and my record of putting public safety first, and have chosen me as the candidate they believe would best represent them and the people of the district in Washington."
Director of the Poway Firefighters Association, Geoffrey Kamantigue, said that Jones' commitment to fire service "is well-documented and much-appreciated."
Borrego Springs Firefighters Association President James Higbee said, "Councilman Jones Exhibits the values of honor, honesty, morality, conviction, integrity and leadership that we as firefighters highly value."
If elected, Jones proposes to work to remove environmental roadblocks to public safety, allowing local fire chiefs to make "public safety findings" which trump environmental rules for purposes of constructing fire breaks, brush clearing and emergency fire roads. He seeks federal reform to encourage better interagency communication and more effective coordination of local, state and federal resources to stop potential fire storms when they first arise. He also suggests that fire storm "war games" be practiced regularly to ensure efficient coordination of resources.
